In 2023 we envisioned a company that connects the scientific precision and impact of data science with the creativity and accessibility of large language models, ā€œData Storiesā€ was a perfect working title to encapsulate this mission during Dirkā€™s months as founder in stealth mode developing the first product prototype. A lot has changed since the early days, and we will share more about our funding, new co-founder, and exciting product directions in upcoming posts.

What hasnā€™t changed is our vision to build a system that is not replacing but augmenting and empowering non-experts to get data answers. Many products have a limited view of empowering: get the job done fast while locking you in to use their product forever and not telling you whatā€™s really going on behind the scenes. Our approach is more human centric: however smart the machines, we need more, not less, data literate people to solve our hardest problems in business and society.

We are excited to have found a company name and domain that reflects our ambition perfectly: explai.com. We are looking forward to exploring the many ways to implement this: Making data speak, automatic questions answering, training data skills, generating insights that involve deep business and user knowledge.

Beyond creating an analysis (ā€œautomationā€) the interested user can boost her data skills on demand and on her own data. Tell us if you like it.
